PParrotlets are very small with a stocky build very similar to lovebirds, and commonly reffered to as "Pocket Parrots". Pacific Parrotlets are one of the most common species kept as pets. They are sexually dimorphic, meaning males and females can be distinguished visually. Males have a blue marking on their head, wings, and tails where females dont have these markings.
Parrotlets have huge appetites even for their size. They eat gram for gram as much as a macaw. So always make sure that there is plenty of food for them. They love to eat fruits, vegies, and seed which gives them a variety to ensure you keep your new family member for a long time.
Parrotlets can learn to talk and mimic even though their vocabulary are not as strong as others such as Quaker Parrots, and Greys they can learn. They are very active and playful and enjoy spending time with their families. Make sure to provide a lot of toys for to avoid destructive behavior. My favorites toys usually are anything that they can hang from and climb such as swings and beaded perches. They the beads, and cardboard rolls as well.
